Tales From My Town Hall

by Sunita Gordon on 3 December, 2022

The second Beddington and Wallington local committee meeting was held on 29 November, which was attended by very few residents, perhaps as it clashed with the England Vs Wales game.

TfL was that talk of the evening – The Stafford Road/Sandy Lane South junction, where buses have turned down for over thirty years, has suddenly been deemed unsafe by TfL. The decision comes after a small bollard and island, which had been destroyed by heavy goods vehicles, was replaced. The island is no bigger than it was before, so the decision by TfL has stunned locals and Sutton Council. The 154 no longer serve the Roundshaw estate in the way they did before, impacting access to schools and health facilities in the area.

River restoration work continues an update from the Biodiversity Team was presented on plans to improve the biodiversity of the River Wandle at Richmond Green, it is an exciting project and has been well received by the local area residents. A similar project took place along Mill Lane stretch of the river which has made walking along the river rather pleasant.

An exciting project is on the way in partnership with Wallington Primary Academy and the Council’s Public Health and Wellbeing, which has created a circular mile of School Superzone that is part of the Daily Mile campaign starting in 2023. Further information can be found here.
